location for depth transducer

At present my boat has the depth transducer mounted about mid-keel, on the starboard side of the keel (boat came with no instrument, just depth and speed transducers mounted in bad locations), I want to get a fishfinder, and use a puck transducer to shoot through the hull; question is: I want to put the transducer forward of the keel, but am unsure of exactly how to do this. The location looks like it'd be under the liner just inside the v-berth - can I cut a hole in the floor for the transducer? what will I find in this location?

My H37C transducers are just off the centerline under the v-berth. Do you not have locker covers giving access to the forward section?

Ed,
Midnight Sun's depth and speed sending units are just forward of the keel, accessible by removing the small cabin sole panel by the head. No liner to contend with and easy to get to.

Wonder why two 1979's would be different? I like mine where they are. It is where I added the two Nexus transducers. It did cause me to use a smaller holding tank than I would have liked though.

I posted a write up in the 33_77-83 owners mods forum but there seems to be no moderator to approve it. I have the photos and description for where I moved my thru hull transponder here

Basically I removed the original ones under each of the salon seats and re-fiberglassed the holes.

Then I cut a door and an access hole to the hull in the 2 drawer compartment that is across from the hanging locker.

That was the most forward and center location I could make work.

Two 79's are different because of different owners. The boats did not come from the factory with any electronics installed. By the way, where you have yours, I have a platform with 4 group 31 batteries in it.
