Is anbody out there living on a catalina 30? If so I am wondering how it is going what problems are there? I have never seen one inside but they look relatively roomy for a 30. I would be living aboard with one other person, my fiancee. We have been together a long time and feel no need for space so I dont expect fireworks from the close quarters but she wants some degree of comfort. ANy input would be appreciated.

roomy

I dont think that there are many bigger for the length and they have a fairly large open cabin it must be the 10ft 10in. beam that give the room

Nice boat

Talk about the most bang for the buck! C30s are the biggest small boat out there. You won't find a roomier 30'er out there. My boyfriend lived on his for a good year with no problems at all & he sold it to a young couple who live quite happily on it. Only thing to keep in mind is if it has a heater for winter months. If not, you'll definitely need one (unless you live in San Diego!). LaDonna

Live Aboard

I lived aboard a Hunter 34 for about 3 years as a bachler. I loved it and would do it again if not now married with kids. The C-30 will supply the room needed, but you will want a few things the make it work. Refrig, Hot and cold water, a heater, and a Microwave would be nice. Then the Marina should have good showers, electric and maybe phone and TV service. Audio and video tapes do not last long in a Marine enviroment and you will not have a place to store any thing, so I rented a spot a the local U-store it. Very carefull planing will be needed if you want to ever go sailing, as everything not tied down will go flying. Your head will need to work good and you will need to be able to get to a pump out station, weekly or so. Enjoy your adventure Bob

Go for it

I lived aboard my 30 for two years, before moving up to my 36 last March. The Catalina 30 is the world's smallest 40 footer. I was quite comfortable alone...another person might make it a little cramped. There isn't a lot of "out of sight" storage, but over the years there have been a lot of great storage upgrades suggested in the C-30 assocaition newsletter. I added a couple of access doors to mine, so that I could get to unused space. (Minney's chandelry in Newport Beach, Ca, has some surplus doors and drawers from Catalina that will perfectly match what you have.) I still maintained a locker ashore for seasonal things. Go ahead, do it...you can always move back ashore if you don't like it.
