House boat great live aboard

A guy told me that his engine died on his houseboat and he had it up for sale. The guy who bought it said that he didn't care about the engine that he just wanted a place to live at the lake. Take that to heart. If you just want to live aboard buy a stinkpot!!! At my marina in Panama City there were two live aboards. A stinkpot and a sailboat. Both had not been out of their slips in a long time and had large oysters on their hulls. The stink pot looked more comfortable. The owner of the stinkpot said that the engines didn't work and that he would be scared to take the boat out even if they worked. Stinkpots have a lot more room for the dollar and a lot easier to climb around. I am very tempted to buy a small trawler for cruising in that they are faster and you don't have to worry so much about bridges and powerlines. If my goal was to move around a little and spend most of my time at a dock or at anchor I'd buy the trawler. But my dream is to move around a lot and I love to sail so sailboat it is. A motorsailer is a option for some. I saw a nice one last spring. They sailed when there was a lot of wind or they weren't in a hurry but mostly motored. Shorter mast and keel meant that they sailed poorly except when the wind was more aft. But they could get under many bridges and run in shallow water. They only had a 3.5' draft. They had been to the Bahamas and motored directly across the gulf from Key West to Mobile.
