I can't find it on this website so I'm not sure it was this couple, but there was a sialing blog I had read where the hull (similar size) was modified with an additional layer of Kevlar below the water line for impact and abrasion resistance when voyaging to Alaska. Food for thought, is this level of modification worth the expense vs buying a more 'blue water' capable production hull? I would personally err on the side of caution and look for heavier scantlings... just my 2 cents.
