We all need flashlights ect. on our boats. My questions is What kind off batteries do you use? My other hobby is cave exploring, and cavers need long lasting very reliable lights just like sailers. I have had the best results with duracell except with 6v lanterns wear I use energisers. Dose anyone use lithium or nickel metal hydride?

Duracell and LED Lights

I'm also a long-time caver and sailor. I like the new small LED flashlights and Duracell batteries. My current favorite is a small 4AA cell flashlight w/ 3 white LEDs for general use around the boat (looking for stuff I've dropped into the bilge, etc.) Gary Kunkel Catalina 30 Folie a Deux

NiCad

I use AA rechargeable NiCads for torch handheld GPS Clock, etc. I have a 12 V charger powered from the boats electrics.

DeWalt Flashlight Attachment

I have a portable Dewalt drill, 12V. I bought a flashlight attachment for the drill battery. Very bright. I've yet to use up one charge, on an overnighter. I lost it for a year, and when I found it, hit the button and "there was light". Best money I have spent on a flashlight. Might be heavy at about 3lb. for caving.

Consider using same size batteries

for flashlights, AM/FM radio, lanterns, fans... Then you can store one size battery and interchange as needed. Also, a multi-meter is a very useful tool to have on board.

Batteries - Small

Little Will Buy a WHOLE lot of them and keep them in a solid plastic holder, like you get at an RV store, or ACE Hardware. Keep the ends disconnected so they don't self discharge, and your alkalines will last forever. Stu
