Lists to Starboard

My Hunter 335 has around a 3 degree list to starboard at all times. The design has the fuel and holding tanks as well as the galley (and subsequently the ice box) and the head on the starboard side. The previous owner installed air conditioning under the settee (starboard side). Is there anything I can do to add bouyancy (sp?) on this side? I thought about trying to weigh down the port side but don't want added weight bouncing around, slower speed and lower waterline. This is a noticeable list and makes the boat look like she is sinking when viewed from the stern. Any suggestions?

Don't they all.

Glenn: My '85 H'31 also lists to starboard. Same type of problem. Have you thought about adding batteries for you electrical system or water tankage? Maybe they can be added low on the port side to give some offset? We added an additional battery and water tank in ours but it was in the aft lazarette. Not the best place for weight as far as I'm concerned. It helped a little but still needs more offset (but no more weight)

What side are your batteries? Starboard too? In centerline or outward? Jim McCue

Our 33.5...........

Same deal with ours. There is alot of things on the starboard side like you mentioned. We have found that it takes about 50 lbs. at gunwhale height to even her out. A couple things to try and consider. First...we always keep out holding tank pumped out. Remember that a gallon of water weighs 8 lbs so if you have 10 gallons of sewage in it your looking at 80 lbs on the starboard side you don't have to have there. Try storing foul weather gear, extra bedding, extra pots and pans, etc in lockers on the port side. It adds up. Put lighter weight stuff (not books, etc) on starboard side. This will leave you with less than one 80 lb bag of sand under your port settee to level you out. This is a cruiser, not a racer so the added weight of a 10 year old is not going to make that much difference in performance. Good luck. Doug

Batteries are just port of center...

but I may be able to slide them further to port. Problem is that this means I have to drag them back to the access hole to check water level. Adding an access hole in the aft berth seems like a lot of work for the benefit.

I like the sandbag ballast idea-

Maybe even a water bladder filled with distilled water -from you basement dehumidifier under the settee. Jim McCue

my 310 too

My 310 generally has a list to starboard too. both batteries are on that side as well as the water heater. the list disappears only when both holding and fuel tanks are full. I just ignore it, as it doesn't seem to affect anything except asthetics at the dock. When racing, we get whoever had the extra plate of lasagna at dinner, to sit to port.
