Listing to Port

I have a '88 Catalina 30 which I recently bought. I am noticing that it lists slightly to port. I have pretty well removed anything of significant weight from the port cockpit storage area. The holding tank on the port side has been emptied as well. The starboard water tank is at least 1/2 full, which sits next to two large batteries under the cabin seat. Anyone have any ideas? Also, I am noticing that the bow seems to be sitting a bit lower in water than other 30s in the same marina. I thought it might be the plow anchor and rode stored in the bow, but I took them off the boat and didn't see any appreciable difference. The 2nd water tank is under the bow bunk area, which probably is at least half full. Again, any ideas? Thanks, Steven

Put all your Equipment on board

Steven, I really don't know the boat that you have. I think you need to put all your equipment on board with fuel and water at capaciaty and then look at your boat to see how it sits. If it is not level you need to take this in to consideration when you load up for the weekend or the month you like to spend out on the water. The only other thing I would be concerned about is if the windows or hatches are leaking -- is something saturated causing the weight problem If not then its just going to be a loading issue each time you go out. You didn't mention the icebox, empty or full? Best of luck

My '88 30 also lists very slightly to port, noticeable only in the slip on calm days from three rows away. I've seen posts before on this site check the archives....I quit worrying about it since there's nothing I can find that is structurally wrong and she is clean, tight and dry.

I have the onley boat at the club that lists to port about 10" at the top of the mast I sail in a lake so my stb water tank is used for gray water and I added a flex tank under the nav station that holds 15 gals of water that fulls throw the supply hose.that helps and I keep all my heavy stuff on the stb side. The bow rides low on my boat.I have a35lb plow anchor on aroller and a 18lb danforth in the ancor well with400 foot of road and about40' of 5/16 chain .The cockpit sits with 1/4" of water when the boat is not rocking in the waves If Im not on board I keep the frount water tank emty .John
