I just posted pictures on the photo forum for running lines aft on an O'Day 25. There is very little room but it works fine and it is a worthwhile project. If you have any questions please post or email me at 112244.525@compuserve.com. Paul Palmer Sea Legs

Lines Aft on an O'day 25

Hi Paul, What year is your 25. I have a 1984 25 and the handrail goes all the way back to the stern of the cabin top. I like how you ran the lines back, did you open the liner up or just placed the thru bolts thru the liner? I plan on the same project later this winter. EJ Tews O'Day 25 Jennifer Lea

EJT My OD25 is a 1977 and yes I through bolted through the liner using stainless acorn nuts. Good luck on your project. Paul

Lines aft 25 O'Day

I Did about the same installation on my 26 with a cheek block on a small piece of teak then half way back along the hand rail I lead the line thru a bullseye to a clutch. Under the cabin sole I bolted a rectangle piece of 3/8 thick aluminum under the clutch and winch. I also added a downhaul to the main, works great. just have to be careful with all the lines in the cockpit. I throw them in the cabin or roll them up and lay them over the winch. I have roller furling for my genoa or jib, makes it nice when you are alone.

Question

How did you attach the blocks at the mast base? It looks like they are tied to the base plate.

Kirk I built a plate to go under the mast step out of a scrap piece of stainless steel. It extends approx 1/4 inch past the mast step, on each side, and then bends up at about a 60 degree angle for about 1 1/4 inch. I cut 3 holes, 3/4 inch in diameter, on each side to attach the turning blocks. So I have 6 attachment holes if needed. They can be used for turning blocks or to tie down your halyards. I also had to place holes on all four corners at the bend to allow the mast step pivot pin and bolt to be removed. If you build a plate be sure to lay out and drill all your holes (actually I used a hole saw for the large holes) before bending the edges of the plate. I hope this makes sense. If you have any other questions please let me know. I think Rudy Nickerson stocks a factory made plate to do the same thing if you don't want to try to make one. Paul
