I keep an 225 ft. line in the rear storage compartment on a reel. the reel takes up a lot of room and is a pain to get out. is there a better way to do this and still be able to deploy it in a hurry if needed? it is 1/2 inch line and used for towing or going to the top of the mast. thanks

or simaliar container that is light wieght and has handles. Coil it (bitter end first) into the basket in a cirular path. Make sure the bitter end of the rode is on the outside of the coils and identify it as the bitter end so it's easy to attach to the boat when your in a hurry....

Stern Line Storage
I have 900 feet of yellow polyprop line coiled on a beige Home Depot garden hose roller and mounted in the corner on the cockpit side of my boats pushpit. I keep it for both stern ties and to drop my crab trap over. Would not use it for a tow though as too light.

Two Five Gallon Buckets
One has holes in the bottom so the line can drip into the other bucket and dry out. The bitter end can be wedged into the space between the handle and bucket whe coiling then can be affixed before coiling out the line so as not to loose it. If it is to be used for towing some sort of float on eithe end is very handy. A pool float (the kind that divides the pool at the deep end) works well.

on my anchor and push the whole works down through the deck fitting into a dedicated locker. The locker is drained to the outside so that even if I should put the rode away wet it will drain. I haven't had a foul after six years of use but no one can get into the locker and disturb the lay of the line. I do have an access hatch that I CAN open if I need to. As long as the line is not moved by people it should run out as nicely as it was pushed in.
