Hate to be so dumb - but what is the half open setting on a line stopper used for? Is it to keep tention on a line while hauling on another? Like to keep some tention on the outhaul or jib sheet while using the self furler? Plesase illucidate me. Thanks

depends

It really depends on the type of rope clutch you're talking about. Some of the better clutches give you the option of easing a line in increments rather than just blowing it. This can be tough on the line, however, and your halyards would probably rather be taken to a winch and tensioned before the clutch is released. On most of the newer clutches you are able to tension line while the clutch is closed.
