Line Cutter

Has anyone added one of the different line cutting devices to the prop shaft? If so I am interested in hearing about your success rate and which one you used. With low water weeds were becoming an issue getting into some bays and marinas on Green Bay and Lake Michigan. Nothing like being in a small channel and having you prop wrap up with growth.

We also have an unmarked fishnet issue from time to time, and as a last ditch thought this might avoid being stranded.

Look forward to your response.

I have the Shaft Shark line cutter on my boat. A number of years ago I had fishing line and latter a nylon line tangle the prop and shaft and stop the boat. That winter I bought a Gori folding prop at the Miami Boat Show and they were selling the line cutters. I don't really know if it has cut anything since it has been installed but I do believe it will work and I don't see any negatives to having one.

Unless it doesn't, then going over the side you may have to address a bigger problem... bring your gloves.

Why couldn't a person just sharpen the prop leading blade edges? Seems like that would work to me. Chief

I Like Mine

95% of the time when I have run over a line it cuts the line. Sometime I have to run it in reverse and then back forward to cut the line, but it has saved me from having to dive a few times. Last haul out I had to sharpen it a little as it had a few nicks in it. As long as you remember it is there, you should be able to avoid nicking your hand. A friend in my marina has a Shaft Shark on his 309. Have had mine on for about 5 years, and would not take it off.

Re: I Like Mine

thanks to all for the feedback, and the warnings.... Ray I was looking at the Shark unit and the one you have installed (the cutting edge / not teeth unit) I am favoring your unit for the very simple reason that you can resharpen it as needed. I appreciate your review.

Sharpening

I expect the shaft shark can be sharpened as well. The biggest reason I got mine was it was one solid piece that slid onto the shaft and I was a bit concerned a bolt would come loose on the shaft shark and I would lose the thing. But, the thread lock they supply with them seems to work just fine.
