All the equipment on my Pearson 23 are original, circa 1985. Everything is very good condition overall, yet I have no manual for the boat. It is now time to replace the main and jib sheets. I am unsure of the exact sizes of these items. It seems the existing lines have perhaps "swollen" over time. Even though the sheets measure at 7/16", I suspect they were 3/8" originally. Since I am fairly new at all this, I wonder if someone has any specific information or good suggestion as to size. Also, any recommendation on a place to have a loop woven into the main sheet for attachment onto the pulley hardware? Thanks.

I agree, lines do swell over time and can give you a false "reading". For a 23, modern good quality 5/16" will do the job for a loooong time and will run through blocks & sheaves very smoothly. Look at the Samson XLS or NER equivalent for halyards. For sheets, 3/8" is nicer on the hands and Samson XL or NER Sta-Set does well. You can order a mainsheet with a woven eye for that purpose - $25 extra IIRC (or learn to splice your own - can be tricky though). Many people find that a bowline works well too at no cost.
