likeing a foot to getting sail to top of mast

Hi.I need some a vice I can't seem to be able raise the mainsail to the top of the mast. It hangs up about a foot from the top.Has anyone out there had the same problems and how did you fix it.Jack

Try loosing he main sheet, I had a similar issue on my O'Day 25. Let the main sheet loos and have not had any issues since then.EJ Tews

E J thank you for the info but have done that . no help .same with the toping lift . i have run a sail slug all the way to the top, the porbum same to happen when they a load on the sail.jack

Lithium and silicone...

Hello,You can get silicone spray (IRC) from electrical supply shops, (don't sub WD40 as it contains acetone which buggers up any anodizing), or you can get LITHIUM - same manufacturer (no UV degradation, food grade, non conductive) grease as a spray from same, apply to your slugs, or one, and run up the slot, if that does not work consider this extreme, I welded loops to a rat tail file and pulled that thru slot with halyard and a downhaul, also lower mast if need be to look for snags or a collapsed slot, usually at spreaders, last would be binding at the masthead rollers, or the angle of your halyard to the mainsails' headboard, keep it as inboard to the slot as possible...SH.

sheet, topping lift, and vang...

Hello...Let all of the above off before you set, and rig a downhaul to cockpit to finnish off set when headboard is high as it will go with all the goop I just suggested, and the other guys goodies too, these are the more obvious mechanical factors holding back your set...The trick is to not be afraid of the mainsail flogging if you are motoring in irons, free off every bloody thing controlling the main and boom, get the head board up, then pull down boom and tighten vang, sheet in and head upwind to view set...Sounds like you you need a tiller slave, try running a light line around your stanchions (eyes and SS rivets) and pullpit back to the tiller thru a block and then to the cockpit coaming, lets you walk forward from a fixed tiller and play and tweak the sets...Beat of...herrons@telus.net if you want any further info or photos..SH.
