Hi All,
I would like to see some of you folks trailer rigs. I need to do some major rework on my trailer and would like to get some ideas. As you can see from mine you will notice it is in bad need of repair.

Thanks,
Barry

Barry,
Here's some pics of my Long Mfg. boat trailer. I bought some 24" extender brackets to hold the bunks. Then I used two pressure treated planks and sandwiched them for the keel to sit on. These planks are clamped to the trailer's cross members with galvanized power company lightning arrester brackets. I didn't want to drill any holes in my trailer if I didn't have to.

Thats a really nice looking boat. I like your trailer setup too. Where would i find that type of bolt on bunk supports at? I haven't seen them before.

brackets

I'll let Joe answer for himself.......especially since I want to know too, but they look very similar to brackets you use on raised semi-permanent boat docks.
I'm sure trailer supply places must have things like this.....if not, then they should.

Barry,
I bought my Long Mfg trailer from Walmsley Marine in Warren R.I. They are the only Long dealer in my area of the East Coast. When I bought the trailer, it was supposed to come with short extension brackets for the bunks, and I asked them if they had longer brackets and he said that they carry 24" extension bracket which they had in stock. If they have them, I'm sure that they are available through "Trailer Parts Depot" or even the Long Boat Trailer Mfg. The great thing about these extension brackets is that you can put a jack under them and get your adjustment with the boat on the trailer. I'll see if I can get a closer picture of one of them for you and post it here.

I modified my trailer as follows:
-overslung the axels to loose another 2" in height when ramping
-moved from 12" to 8" C class tires that lowered the trailer another 2"
-reversed the ball on my vehicle so that tongue sits lower when launching and retrieving.
-added sliding 7' tongue extension to allow trailer to back in 7' more than before modification.
-tongue extension has pin that allows extension without a second person's assistance. (pin falls into place when lined up with hole)
-added ladder to winch mast to be able to board boat from bow
-added self centering trailer guides to ensure boat seats properly on bunks
-marked trailer guides so the driver can visually see when trailer is deep enough to retrive boat.
-modified tilt mechanism on trailer so that back end of trailer sits 4" off bottom, allowing boat to be retrieved in 16" of water, (draft is 12")
-added bearing buddies to hubs for easy lubrication

Dave and Barry,
My bunk extension brackets are 24"X2" square stock galvanized steel and I got them from Walmsley Marine in Warren RI Route 136 North.

I couldn't find a name or make on these brackets but it's possible that it was manufactured by Long Mfg. All I can tell you is that it's one of the best brackets I've seen for bunks, and they're easy to adjust with the boat on the trailer and two jacks. Good luck guys!

George,

I have a Triad trailer for my Rhodes 22. The quality of the Triad is hard to beat. We have many thousands of miles on it and with maintenance I hope to put many more on her.

Ron,
I've looked at those Triad Trailers and I'm inclined to agree with you. They are a great trailer that's hard to beat.
