Watching a beautiful lightning storm right now in the Gulf of Mexico and am wondering how a keel stepped mast would handel a strike. Are the two components close enough to offer little resistance? I guess there's fiberglass between the two, does this get burned away during a strike causing a leak? Thanks, Ken

Should be connected

The mast and keel should be connected by a heavy wire or strap. That's not the whole story, but it's the first and primary step. David Lady Lillie
