Just wondering if anyone on this site will be participating in the Annapolis parade tomorrow evening. Reply with your theme, and we'll keep an eye out for you.

Just Spectating

Being currently boatless, I was thinking of taking the kids down to City Dock to watch. I've never been but heard it is great fun. Markdb

I'll be participating as an observer

only. I go every year and wouldn't miss it. Dinner & drinks after...a fun tradition for our family!

Re: Light Parade

Glenn, Thanks for posting this! Although I am not going to be in the parade, I was curious as to when the parade will be taking place? I am new to sailing (have a 170 and am hopefully about to trade up to a 216) and just about everything that has to do with sailing in the Annapolis/DC area interests me. Any information you have would be helpful and thanks again for posting! -Robert Wright

SPINSHEET.COM has a few details

It starts at 6pm and seems to be viewable from city dock. Any ideas on how many people attend on land? Will the 5 year old and 2 year old have problems seeing? Markdb

Your children will have no problem seeing the boats. We usually go to the Naval Academy wall(through the main gate). The boats leave around Spa creek, head out to the Severn, come back around by the Academy and head to Ego Alley (city dock), then make another circle, back towards the Severn. Plenty of good vantage points. Spa creek bridge is a pretty good spot also. It DOES GET COLD. Dress them warm, take some hot chocolate, and they should have a great time.

Eastport Yacht Club...

sponsors this event each year. Their website has the details about veiwing, parking and the Naval Academy. The city should be running shuttle buses from the Stadium to downtown, similar to the Boat Show events. You will probably need a photo ID at the Academy gate for entry. They will search bags. Spa Creek bridge will have to open to allow the 2 fleets to switch venues, so be careful on that spot. Check the website and dress warm, it will be freezing!

Lesson learned

Wow! Who knew that everyone in Maryland showed up for the parade? The kids saw it but I missed a lot trying to find parking. I didn't realize there would be that many people. Lessons learned. Don't come in via Eastport. The bridge goes up and stayed up for a long time. No parking downtown. I ended up parking "illegally" in the faculty parking at St. Johns. But the kids loved it and I would love to do that some day. Markdb

Mark ..more lessons

Next year, you might try parking at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium and take the shuttle bus. We ran into trouble also as parking was not allowed on the Academy grounds this year. I didn't try the stadium, but I heard they were running the busses. Despite the cold & the crowd, it was a great parade!
