Wondering what everyone thinks about the 306 only having about 350 sq ft of sail area and how it handles in a light wind. Does one need to motor sail to get it moving or is it more responsive that I think. Thinking of purchasing one myself.

There are a number...
...of things you can do to increase light air performance. Not the least is a super clean smooth bottom and a feathering prop. Your main needs to be able to get very flat. A baggy blown out main cannot keep flow attachment robbing boat speed. Move all the crew to the leeward side of the boat to induce sail shape and decrease wetted surface area. Do not choke the genny. Move the car slightly forward and crack off on the sheet to allow the genoa to breath. Remember that pointing in very light air is just not efficient. Sail a little low and build apparent wind speed. The boat will slowly accelerate.

I agree with Alan. In Addition you might check the specs for this boat on this site. according to the specs this boat has 400 sq ft of sail area and 7150lbs of displacement. These figures say to me that this boat will move in all but the lightest air if you follow Alans sugestions. With these specs I would Buy this boat for cruising and club racing
