I have been looking into the purchase of an gennaker for my Beneteau 331 and along the way looked at the info on the Doyle UPS - the claim of use thru a much larger range of apparent wind makes it appealing. Has anyone out there sailed with the UPS or competitor's equivalent? Would be interested in hearing of experience.

You're only going to get so much directon from any asymetrical spinnaker. They work best on a beam to broad reach. Some work great on a run. But don't expect to do close-haul. That's not what they're for, and that's why you have the jib anyway. I recommend research "spinnaker" on the Hunters Owners Website for a raft of info about the delights of spinnakers.

Gennaker

Henry; Several years ago I bought a North genniker for my Catalina 30. It was an awesome sail that pulled like a locomotive! I could almost beat with it, and it could close reach very well. When I sold the boat, the buyer didn't want the sail, so I kept it and now use it on my Beneteau 40. It's small, but still pulls hard! AWOA, get a sock for it, it makes it so much easier to handle. Good luck.

Close reach in light winds

We can do 60 degrees off the true wind in light air with our asymetrical cruiser. If you are not bound by racing rules, it's _the_ light air sail for a cruiser. David LAdy Lillie
