Lifting Struts on Engine Hatch.

I have two struts on each side to lift the engine hatch. I believe they are 40lb + lifting powder.

They're so strong they're braking their mount brackets. I took them off and tried to compress them manually and they wont budge with my weight. Does this mean they're shot.

If the hatch is 40-60lbs how strong should they be.

Any sources for new ones.....

Gas struts from AutoZone or someplace. Same as the "Marine" ones at half the price.

My engine cover uses a single gas strut, rated to 90 lbs. There is a lot of force on those mounts, they should be through-bolted to a stout attachment. You can find replacements McMaster-Carr. www.mcmaster.com

They are sized by lift lbs, length, and end attachment type.
