To any Oday poptop owners, My 1972 Oday 23 has a full-cabin poptop. Yesterday, I went to the building where my boat is stored in during this winter. As I was working on my interior cabin refit, I decided to raise the poptop. It took alot of effort to raise the top fully, so much so, darn-near popped my shoulders out of their sockets! Anyone run into problems with the full pop-top? any ideas on how to make the raising of it easier? I've checked all the steel cables and they seem to be in good condition. Nothing seems to slow up the progress, just the winch/lifting mechanism isn't as strong as I think it should be. There's gotta be an easier way! Help. I have the same boat

Mark, I have the same exact hull, and I have had no trouble with the lifting mechanism. Have had the boat for 25 years. Make sure that there is nothing stuck in the pullys or hindering the cable. I did have something stuck in mine once and it was a bit difficult then. See if the cables are twisted. Since then I always check to make sure nothing is in the way of it, either up or down. Hope this helps. Paul

poptop cable check

Hi Paul, I'll do a check of the cables and ensure nothing is hindering the cables. Just was curious if anyone had the same issue before. Thanks. Mark

Pop Top

I have experienced some difficulty raising the top from time to time. I have found that sometimes it gets lifted unevenly causing the slides to get cocked in the tubes. Try lubricating the slides with something like lanocote to ease the binding.
