The July issue of Seaworth magazine (BoatUS) ran an article about some of the older LifeSlings being defective (made by West Marine). Some, not all, had used steel “D” rings to attach the flotation sling to the line – which of course would rust, possibly failing at a crucial moment. I checked mine, and sure enough it was steel and rusted. As stated in the article, I returned it to WestMarine and they replaced it free of charge. However, I haven’t seen much write-up about this other than the one article. I think this is something that should be addressed at every dock and every marine supply store. I have looked for the recall article on BoatUS and Westmarine websites and have found nothing.I’m suggesting you check your lifesling to see if it has steel “D” rings. See attached photo for the scanned article.Fair winds,Mike
