have been thinking of getting an emergency life raft for my oday 22 and am wondering what is a good deal and safe- we will be on Lake Superior most of the summer and feel that the added security would be a good idea. Viking has a nice product alot of money for something I hope never to use but would feel good knowing it is there. Algae

advertised as non-sinkable

The O22's are advertised as nonsinkable, as long as the foam under the forward berth and cockpit sole are intact. From the placement I would imagine that you would sort of wallow around, deck awash, should you be holed. I've never heard this tested, so I can't personally guarantee it, but point it out anyway. If it is truly unsinkable, this fact may balance out the difficulty of carrying an emergency raft. We only sail the Hudson, but when out in the middle of Haverstraw bay it has made me feel that much safer. Rich. (someone else started using "rich", so I'm switching to my screen-name, "proto57" in the name field)
