I have a 2001 C-310, which comes with Vinyl coated lifelines. How do all of you sailors keep the lines clean? I tried various cleaners, and, although they work, they are fairly labor intensive. What works to vlean them up, without damaging the vinyl? Thanks!

Magic Eraser

I have used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on my life lines for to years now. Works great! Afterwards I put wax on them. Magic Eraser also works on various other things around the boat.

VIM

I have used VIM for about 20 years on three boats. It is a little abrasive, but has not harmed the lines. I put a little on a damp sponge and wrap it around the line. Wipe any residue off with a damp towel afterwards.

Inflatable boat cleaner

We have had good results with inflatable boat cleaner. I think it's starbrite.

A different option

Here's a different option. I hate the vinyl on the lifelines. They are a pain to keep clean. I just got a new 28mkii, and striped the vinyl off the lifelines. Not only does it look better (IMO), but it is safer. If you ever should get corrosion of the lifelines, you may not be aware of it until you lean on that area and you fall overboard. I had asked my dealer if Catalina would supply the lifelines uncoated, and he said it would be easier just to take the vinyl off. He did say the Catalina is now supplying one of the bigger boats (42?) with bare lifelines. I have heard that this is now required for some offshore raceboats because of safety. Rob
