Looking for information about stanchion geometry. I'm particularly interested in the angle at which the stanchion sits once mounted. On my S17 port side, the aft-most stanchion appears to be angled amidship more than the stanchion on the starboard side. There's no evidence that it has been bent. Would it be a mistake to reverse it so it angles to port? The mounting screws line up perfectly. Or should I look for a replacement.

If we can assume that the stanchion fits into a mounting plate, and is not one welded piece, then either the plate is bent or the deck is not the same level as the other side. It wouldn't be a mistake to reverse it but I'd rather have it face inboard than outboard if I am understanding your question. It would still be angled and would not look straight. I would inspect the deck around the angled stanchion. A picture would help.
