The lifeline stanchions on my OD25 are bolted through the headliner with a washer and nut. My question is: Is there a sizeable stainless steel backing plate (or any type of backing plate) between the deck underside and the headliner securing these lifeline stanchions? Thank you for your help.

I Doubt It

I have replaced these washers with stainless steel backing plates, where possible. Mainly in the pulpit and pushpit.I have not done this yet to the 4 mid ship stanchions. I am rebedding this spring and I may just do that. If you do please let us know what you find. Don

Just replaced two

Jack, I just replaced two stanchions and I am pretty sure that the only thing between the deck and the liner is the plywood core. Be careful not to over tighten the screws or you will dimple the liner. PM

I have also rebedded the stanchions, pullpit and pushpit on my 25 with headliner. I believe, but am not certain, that the headliner and deck are essentially in contact at that point. I didn't worry about what was between them. As far as backing plates, I have trapezoidal shaped teak backing plates on the stanchions and pullpit. I assume because they are visible and this was one way to maintain aesthetics. Also makes it easier to use a 'standard' washer to spread the load over the backing plate, which in turn spreads the load over the headliner. Works well. Russ Marcks
