Took twenty-one entries to get to the PBO answer. Why do you think that is Bill? How many PBO lifelines are thirty plus years old? But at age 69 maybe I should let the next guy worry about that. I did investigate synthetics a few months back. Very expensive, not only the cable but you have to buy hardware. I'll look again though.

P.S. Found this, I would need four of these kits: http://www.colligomarine.com/Synthetic-lifelines/Lifeline-kit-w/o-gates.htm?pop=0 .

I would prefer 7 x 19 SSAC Type 316 for it's flexibly and feel. Its your $ tho.

Ed: I just checked on of the H'37C in the harbor this weekend. The upper line in approx. 3/16" but the lower one is one or who sizes down from that (probably 1/8)?

Thanks Steve, but that is really light and not original. I assume you mean bare wire. If I do what you did it will be 3/16" wire and 5/16" with the pvc covering.

You are correct Lloyd, my dollars. And at $3.00 a foot I will not be using 7x19. No one makes lifelines from that anyway.

One month and 25 responses later the lifelines are in the garage. Sorry, but this old guy went conservative and matched(almost) the original. I bought coated 3/16" wire with the 1/8" coating. So a 5/16" wire instead of the original 3/8". I think that I can live with the 1/16" difference. Seems that is what is on all your new boats.

Total price from Seco South was $245. plus $19. shipping. They shipped both sets, old and new, in the same box. Any reason to keep four old wires, each over 32 feet? I was thinking I would take it to the marina tomorrow and give it to them. At least they have a dumpster.

Price of SS is up and has been for several years. Sell that coil to a scrap metal company.
Ditto if you have your old SS standing rig cluttering up the garage.

Not sure if it is worth the travel expense. Looks like about a $1.00 a pound for 316. Maybe ten pounds?
