Out for our second sail today. Great SW winds 10-15kts. Boat speed running around 6-7.4, was out for 5hrs, temps about 85 out on the water.

Don't let it pass you by.. Get out there and do it....

I wish! I go under the knife in two weeks and am assured that six weeks later I can launch to boat. Have figured out the handling of the anchor and the rest is light work.
My back is as good as twenty years ago.

Zeehag,,,,,,,,,,,anchor and chain are only about 75 pounds so the halyard winch may be enough. Gonna try to get my grand daughter interested this summer if I can pry her away from softball and her mother's control.

Yesterday was a red letter day!

I drove by the marina in the evening just around dark (my usual work day ... dark thirty to dark thirty ...) to find Thunderbird in a slip on the water! The guys didn't install the batteries yet so I was a little disappointed that I couldn't flip on the lights and have a little music ... but a nice finish to the day nevertheless!

Good luck with that, Ross! I remember those ASA days! Those girls play up to 6 or 7 games each weekend at those tournaments ALL summer long! The high school season is not nearly as gruelling! Plus ... they travel! We were going from Connecticut to Virginia Beach ... what a life!

Life is good. I'm looking forward to a weekend or two in May on the hook. Weather just north of you on the Magothy has been superb. I just enjoy going outside and breathing the fresh, warm air. Aaaahhhhh!

If you think the winds were good yesterday on the Bay, you should have been out today! With a front moving in, the winds were blowing in the 20-25 kt+range all day and the sailing was sweet.....

Just rub it in Jim!

I will be back in the water on Monday. All my work is done. I am pretty happy with my progress with a new packing gland packing, fixed roller furling, new engine impeller, oil change, woodwork done, sail repair done, and a ton of other things. All that is left is to install the bimini and do the water tanks and I am ready to cruise!

See you out there!

I have an 8 am appointment tomorrow to launch the boat, Perryville, Md. Suppose to rain and be a bit windy. Not sure how much wind is to much for launching. I think we'll be ok.
Ross, seen your ladder up on Monday when I was down, didn't see you. I am not quite ready to raise the sails but Told Stan that I was ready for Launch whenever he had time, trying to get ahead of the curve.

Bee, If the wind is not out of the west you will be alright. A south wind will blow you right in and a north wind will take some engine to get you in. The east winds are broken up by the condos.

I'm not worried about the wind once I'm in the water, although it will seem a little different parking my boat without no other boats even close.
I just wasn't sure how much wind would be to much for the Lift to be carrying the boat around.

Stan could handle the boat in the lift in anything less than a gale. but when it hits the water and the straps go slack the wind will take over and controlling the boat in the launch basin is a bear.

Jim and Warren...

Nothin's worse than to be still waxin' and paintin' and see posts about how good the wind is and how long a sail you had. You dogs!

Wind was pretty heavy, held me to the side of the launch bulkhead. Got her pushed around the end and did pretty well till i got to the end of our pier. Wanted to do a 180 and head up river to enter the slip channel from that direction but that didn't work out to well. As I turned sideways to the wind she heeled like I have half my sail up. Started over and Backed in to the runway, but not till I used the bulkhead down from ours as a Skid plate. chipped a little wood from the Toe rail but I was pretty happy with how well things went once we were tied up, safe and sound in her slip. Considering the wind it could have been a lot worse Should be down on Thursday to do some clean up and clean out and make sure she's ready to sail. Also should be helping a friend put his in, from his trailer, at the public ramp, then bring it to his slip.

Weather under ground indicates winds near 20 from the north. kinda hard to make low speed turns.

LOL. Makes a case for carrying grappling hooks aboard the boat. If no one is around grappling the windward side and using the ropes to help guide the boat in could be helpful....If you are strong enough!

Glad to hear that you made it okay. Monday is my launch day and I am hoping to get underway and back to my slip.

I did have the Anchor unlocked and ready drop[ if needed.
By the time Grappling hooks would have done any good, it would have been to late. Ounce close to the slip I had no problems, just a slight miscalculation on what the wind would do. I'm kinda new at this game so I was happy things went as well as they did. I was the only one onboard, My wife was waiting on the dock to grab a line.
