Sorry to hear it, but glad you are getting preventative care so it can get taken care of early. A colonoscopy is a must do for all at some point in life. My Mom felt fine, but a GI exam had found little bumps in her duodenum last fall they were concerned about. Unfortunately my Father's life came to an end at that time, so she put off seeking further treatment for nearly nine months. When she followed up, they found that she had a very aggressive, but non-cancerous growth that was going to eventually close off her duodenum. At 73 she elected to have Whipple surgery, which was in the Doctor's words..."one of the most complicated surgeries we perform." She had her duodenum removed, her gall bladder removed and half her pancreas removed, as they are all inter-related from a plumbing perspective. She had some complications, but after nearly a month either in the hospital or at a nursing home, she is home. If she had ignored it she would have died within a few years. Because it was found and because she was able to have the surgery while she was still phycially strong (she is a vigorous 73 year old) she was able to handle it. She put on 9 pounds on purpose before the surgery and ended up losing 19 lbs total.
