Our YC was donated a Lido 14. We rigged it today and there are a couple of rigging questions we have. Anyone have experience with this puppy?

Rick, throw the questions out there, so's we can take our shots at them.

Lido 14? Yeah, been there, but it's been a long time.

Anyone with smallboat experience should be able to at least get it going, then check Lido14 websites. They're a very active racing class.

Thanks Guys

The boat is in the mountains, so it isn't easy to compare. Still, when I go to the boat I'll look one up. Specifically, there is a rudder hold down, I think, on the transom but not sure how it works. The vang is a mystery. There is a block attached to the jib halyard that is puzzling. There is a gasketed hole about 1/2 inch on the foredeck by the stemhead fitting for which I see no function unless it is a jib downhaul for luff tension. Thanks for the rigging guide. Really helpful. I'm sure it will make more sense as we get familiar with it. Right now, I am using West System to repair some damage when what appears to have been a tree fell on it. It's fixable tho.

I think I may know that specific boat. Can you tell me the sail number, or at least the color and year? Thanks.

No Sail Number

There are no sails. The boat was a lien sale boat. There was damage to the port seat / flotation tank. I don't recall seeing any ID altho there may be one. There is evidence of prior repair on the aft bulkhead and hull starboard forward. Good repairs. It is the typical light blue, stripe tape at cove on hull sides and dark blue stripes on deck. The mast and boom are period gold. It is well rigged with Harken gear.

Not the one I was thinking of. I can tell you what the hole in the foredeck may be for. It was common here to have your painter through that hole, and when untied from the dock, you could pull the slack in from the cockpit via the top of the forward floatation tank, rather than having it on the deck. The block on the jib halyard may just be for another line, in order to get a 2 to 1 purchase. Though not initially rigged that way, it is a legal improvement. When the boat is rigged, all the luff tension is on the sail, caused by jib halyard and mainsheet tension. The headstay will hang loose. The hull number should be inside below the oval cutout for the rudder head/tiller. It is visible in the fiberglass if not painted over too many times. We sold ours to some one from Big Bear, I was hoping it wasn't the same.

That is helpful information. This was a Lake Arrowhead boat. Good to know about that hole forward. What you describe makes sense. Also the block on the jib halyard.

Re: Pull!

To jmig: From another new Lido14 owner; How is the centerboard rigged? Is there a block on the end of the bronze arm with a tackle that goes to the pad eye on the floor forward of the trunk? There are matching screw holes midway in the opening of the trunk. What goes there? What holds the board in a full down position? There are no nearby boats to look at and so help me I cannot find pics or drawings anywhere on the net. Thanks in advance, Jeff

That sounds right. If I remember, I'll take a pix next week.
