In the early 1990's Hunter sent 10 or 12 modified H35.5 Legends to Bermuda to race in the Liberty Cup. I have had an opportunity to see a video of that race series and noticed that the H35.5's had a jib track on the cabin top just abeam and extending fwd of the shrouds. Some time ago a Hunter owner on this list said he had one of those Liberty boats. If so could you post a picture or two on this site as to just were the jib track is located and how it is attached to the cabin top (ie through bolts ??) Going to try racing with a 120 jib and the cabin top jib track seems like a good idea. RD

Liberty Jib Track

TJ Many thanks for the reply. From the photo you provided it looks like the track is right alongside the overhead skylite. As such the through bolts could be hidden under the skylite filter panel. How long is your inboard jib track ?? Looking fwd to any more info you may have. Do you use this inboard track ?? RD

Hi Guys

I don't have the "Liberty Cup" version of the 35.5 but I have done all and more of those upgrades. My #3 tracks are in the same place as TJ's. These tracks are through bolted and the holes in the cabin liner are covered by a strip of teak cut to match the other teak trim. I use these cars any time the apparent wind is approaching 20kts and I need to set the #3 Blade that we have. It's amazing how much closer to the wind the blade points and how much quicker the tacking is because the clew of the sail doesn't have to clear the shrouds. You can use one of two options for sheeting. Either use a dedicated #3 sheet from these cars back to the cabin top winches (which I upgraded to #30 Lewmar) or use the same sheet for your #1 and allow it to exit the #3 car and back to the #1 car and then to the primaries. Personally I prefer to use the cabin top winches. One crew member can stand in the companionway and release on one side and immediately trim on the other. It works great.
