T bone a 50' burn the marina to athe ground, catch fire to nuclear warheads, then Amagedden sets in? Could get struck by lightening but I have no specific insurance for that. I use to run with a basic liability policy, most cruisers do as off-shore is quite expensive and an experienced crew of three is required normally etc + the fact that if it has occasion to pay off you would likely be dead anyway so why bother? Nowdays you would be foolish not to get some basic P&I. Reason? If your vessel sinks at your slip in the marina, this kind of thing does happen, you are liable for the salvage, disposal AND the POLLUTION Clean Up! Which is a biggie these days. 300K liablity + P&I with the marina as an insured on the policy is a minimum. Homeowners (homebuyers) is pretty worthless as good marine insurance.

If it is a pier full of powerboats,

I would call it taking one for the team. ;D;D

Crazy

I probably am a little crazy..., and my response was somewhat flippant, but I do have insurance. $500k liability, Hull replacement, extra gear coverage, $100k medical for each crew, towing, P&I. Cap'n Ron is absolutely correct about the environmental exposure that boat owners can be faced with. And I believe that people who do damage and make messes should be held accountable and be made to clean up after themselves. Well okay, maybe except for the Exxon Valdes!
