PLastics Supply

Just check the yellow pages of the nearest city and any plastics supply company should be able to cut you a new one out of lexan. Have you thought about replacing it with fiberglass covered plywood and making your hatch boards out of plexiglas? I have plexiglas hatchboards and they let in plenty of light. I was suprised to see on the new HUnter 260 the warning not to step on the cover since it is so large. Pretty awkward. You can always call Hunter and they may be able to provide you with a new one since they seem to like using plastic for a cover.

Fred, you've got a project.

Fred: I think your companionway cover is similar to the H'31. You will need to remove the sea hood to get the old one out and the new one in. Just as Jack mentioned, any place that sell plastic should be able to cut you a new one. Just take to old one out and take it to the shop for a pattern. If your tracks are like the ones on most of this era of boat, the channel that is used for the companionway cover to slide on is open on the forward end. This is where water leaks in when it rains. You should put something in the end of the track and seal it with some caulking.

I had mine done at....

Acme Plastics, West Paterson, NJ. Just send them the old one or give them exact specs and they will make you a replacement. I had them do all of my companionway boards on my 1985 H-31, which originally were wood and now are tinted lexan. Cost under $200, took about a week.

Plexiglas

I broke my companionway cover last year. According to Hunter, the original was Plexiglas, not Lexan. I was surprised, but the 1/2" thick Plexiglas is very strong in bending and won't scratch nearly as easily as Lexan. It isn't bulletproof like Lexan, but that isn't an issue for me. You do have to take the fiberglass cover off and recaulk it upon reinstallation. It isn't as big a job as I originally thought it might be. I got the tinted Plexiglas at a local Supplier for $110 including tax, cut to size. Feel free to email me at callisto@bignet.net for more info. Good luck
