Hello all,
Have a window with a gasket that is coming undone in one corner. Picture does not do it justice but hoping someone has experience with these windows. The gasket piece has to be inserted into a channel…… can’t figure it out. A special tool?
thanks
Greg

You might try warming it (agressively) with a hair dryer. Once it is soft, you may be able to pry it in with the flat blade of a screw driver.

That is a Portal and not considered a window.

A Portal is "Water Tight" like your hull.

Is the Portal leaking?

Thats a good idea with the hair dryer, Thanks! Its such a strange design.... the slot where the gasket is suppose to slip in is in a strange place.... mid gasket. I'll try and get a better picture but in the second picture you can see the slot. The gasket has a small lip mid gasket that goes inside.

A "portal?" I have never heard that term in the context of boats. Do you have a reference?

I think you have to push it in with a plastic roller tool but be sure not to puncture the gasket. A screwdriver is discouraged if it is sharp enough to damage the gasket. I'd guess that if the gasket has come out, it is damaged and can't be re-installed. I just bought a new gasket. Good luck! I have one to replace, too.

It is probably one of those autocorrect issues. The word is porthole (PORT-HOLE)...
It's funny that when correcting someone else's terminology, the correction is incorrect. :)

Autocorrect... it can be your worst enema. :poop:

(I know.... I know... I over use (or is that overuse) that one but... I can't help it.)

You may be right….. these are original from 2005……. Another job, but thank goodness this porthole is in the cockpit under canvas. Gives me time….

I had the same issues and you can fix this too. Go to the auto parts store and ask for 1/8 inch silicone vacuum hose, about 4 -6 feet cost you about $5-6 dollars. Cut to size with about 1/8 inch extra to fit the channel. add a little RTV sealant to provide a seal between the two ends. and you're done. I did this to all my portlights about five years ago and not a single drip or leak since. I'll try to take a pic of the port and a picture of the vacuum hose later today.
