Lewmar portlight gaskets

Does anyone have any clever tricks to installing new factory gaskets- it seems bloody near impossible!

Which gaskets?

I have put a little oil or water on a paper gasket to get it to “stick” in place.

On other gaskets, I have put the fasteners (for 2 corners) through the cover or part and the gasket, then put them in place so the bolt or fasteners keep the gasket aligned.

Put them in very hot water prior to the attempt. I did that when replacing my Beckson gaskets on last boat and worked like a charm.

clever tricks

Once you have properly cut the gasket to right length.
Per my gasket provider...

1) Start the seam [the 2 butt ends] at the top center with a tiny Dot of Super Glue in the groove
2) Press gasket to glue Dot and count to 2.
3) press gasket till you get to the curved corner.
4) Put a Dot of Glue on the start of curve and one on exit of curve
5) push in gasket and guide around the curve.
6) Repeat Dots on each corner until done.
