I would like to replace the plexi glass in my Lewmar hatches on my 1989 C30. Any advise on a good cheap way to aquire the plastic. The swap seems easy. Thanks. jr
I replaced the lens' and gaskets on my 88...almost went to TAP Plastics to get the material to make my own lens'...decided OEM. Maybe paid a little more but the project took only a few hours, not a few days. I looked up the part #'s on the Lewmar site, then had the local chandlery order it for me.
I went to a plastic dealer bought the tinted brones plastic took out all the windows (11of them) and made them at home.I cut them with a jig saw and then belt sanded them with 80 grit to finish the shape finished them with 100 then 150 grit sand paper heated the edges with plumber tourch to make them scrach free.glued them in with GE silacone The 1/4 plastic matches the side windows on the C 30 1988 very good .I have bomar roof hatches that they also work for but the coler is not as dark as the origanal and mite fade the inside wood and other finishs The lewmar ports where thicker then 1/4" but not 3/8" it must be a metric size.I used the 1/4 " plastic with ss washers on the hing and made plastic washers that went under the dog ears so the port would be tight works ok in a lake i dont no if i would trust the 1/4 " plastic if I was up side down .
