I have a Hunter 306 2003 and i need to change my 13x13' lens on one of my rooftop hatchs (put my foot on it!). Its dificult to find the right lens: is the MK I and MK II lens be interchangeable? Were could i find the lens? Thnaks.

Hatchmasters.com is/was the place to go for Lewmar hatch repairs. However, they are temporarily closed.

A good plastics shop can make one for you from the original. Tap Plastics is one source online.

Is the frame in good shape? Do you just need the lens? Got pictures of the lens?

I've simply built all the lenses I've needed on most of my boats over the years. I don't find it difficult to do although it is fussy, depending upon attachments. I usually just buy the lens material and make the shape needed.

How does that handle attach to the lens? It's not clear from the pictures.

It’s glued on the lens. There is no screen throw the lens (so MK1) but there is no roll pin hole on the frame (so MK2). It looks like the lens dimensions of The MK1 and MK2 are the same.

On many Lewmar hatches (your's looks like mine), the gasket is sandwiched between the frame and lens. Now would be a good time to replace the gasket as well.

Does anyone know the approximate tint on these hatches so that new material can be acquired?

Oops! I did that as well.... These lenses are easy to replace, they come with the rubber seal and the latch glued on. The frame seperates in two. Check out defender.com

There is a part no inscribed on the inside of the lens, lift the rubber seal a bit and you'll find it. Likely Mk2, as they were delivered around 2000-2001.

Last I checked, we could not get the acrylic that lewmar uses in North America. The other challenge, is gluing on the latch. The edges would also have to be precicely routed. It would be a lot of work and you'd have to figure a way to get the old latch off the glass and what adhesive can be used to install on the new hatch.

They are relatively affordable, just buy the part from Lewmar via your local dealer or defender.ca (owned by a canadian company FortNine / NovaCap)
