I searched teh archives and couldn't come up with much on this topic. On my Hunter 356 boththe forward and midship overhead hatches just refuse to stay open by them selves. I spoke with Lewmar and they said to use an allen wrench and simply tighten the allen screw. Ok. Did that and teh mid ship is better, forward still no good. Is their another trick? Has anyone done the retrofit stays for the hatches? How difficult to install and is it worth it? While I'm asking, opening port in the head also doesn't want to stay in the open position. I don't see any way of getting to that allen nut without disassembling the entire port hatch.

Skippy, I have Lewmar Roller stop hatch

on Bietzpadlin that wouldn't stay open and had to rebuild the hinges. Check with Fausett in Annapolis they were my source for parts. Very slow but they came through.

lewmar is slow....

Hi Shippy, Lewmar is slow, especially if it has to come from the UK. Some parts are in Connecticut and can ship in a week. I'll be happy to find them for you if you can provide model and year or serial numbers from the frames. Dave Groshong SailboatOwners.com customer service

Same Problem Hunter 45 CC

I have the same with the two large hatches on my 2006 Hunter 45 CC. Would be interested in a fix other than tightening the allen screws until they feel like they are going to break. We don't seem to have this problem on the smaller hatches.

These guys are very responsive. I have gotten new hinge stops from them to keep the hatch up. They have all the Lewmar hatch parts even for old models. They also can put new lens in the hatches that are the old type that are not made for owner lens installation. Check the site link below. Good Winds Dave M s/v DAMWEGAS

Change the set screws to bolts!

I rebuilt a sunken island Packet 44 and the set screws were rusty and one broke. So i just found a ss bolt and nut with lock washer10/24 of right length and used it to replace the ballel type set screws -now you can tighten a lot no problema--

Hatches

Had this problem with our large overhead deck hatches on our 420. Finally installed the hatch supports offered by Lewmar. Not a hard installation and not expensive
