Hi All...

this is something that has been happening intermittently for a couple of years. sometime when we pout the gear shifter forward she doesn't go into gear. So I pull it back to neutral and try again. Eventually she does go into gear but sometimes with a bang. I have checked the linkage and it all seem OK. we have been on the mooring a lot this past month and using the engine to share the batts using the center push in on the shifter. We have done this for years without any issues though. I can't seem to find an exploded view of the shifter assembly or a manual online.

There is what looks like an adjustment screw that is accessable but I am hesitant to try it since i don't really know what it does yet.

Does this sound like a linkage issue? ...gear shifter assembly issue? ...or a Transmission issue?

As always any helps is appreciated.

Try disconnect cable from engine gearbox side and play with cable by shifting the throttle (i assume yours is single lever) and see how smooth the cable moves.
Then manually engage gear directly using the lever at gear box. See if its ok. You may also run the engine and manually engage gear to test but do be very careful about getting things caught on the rotating shaft and coupler.
Hopefully you can pinpoint source of problem this way.

Yes it's almost all ways the cable that goes bad it should be marked as to the length but you can pull out just remember pull a messenger string in take to WM or any rep marina and get a New one with same type ends
