Lewmar Electric Winch Popping Breaker

98/99 Lewmar OP2 keeps blowing the breaker as I try to raise the mainsail. This starts occuring at about half way up and can hear the winch laboring. Checked connections all the way to the motor and are clean. Do not think it is being overloaded as I can hand raise the sail at the mast. Called Lewmar, said for me to buy a new winch because the OP2 is no longer supported, not even a suggestion on a possible solution.

Any thoughts?

try raising the sail from the winch. Bet the deck organizers have worn blocks.

My OP2 sometimes trips when I'm trying to get the last foot and a half of the mainsail up.

The only other time my OP2 pops the breaker is when my wife hauls me up the mast. She has her own theory...

Check the current draw with a clamp meter when in use with load/no load. If this is less than the breakers rating you need a new breaker.
