Lewmar 40ST winch repair

Broke my stripper ring on one of my 40ST's. Now lines jam if not careful. So going to order new one and a spare also. Do I need the kit or just the ring? Also, Does the pan head screw allow the crown to be taken off or is there a trick that I am not seeing in the blow up? Thanks a milliion.

You should just need the stripper ring- the very top of the winch unscrews (at least it did on mine) and will give you access to the guts of the winch. Lewmar has a good website where you can down load and print a pdf for your winch

Ditto nveater. I had a crew do a wrap and crank it down. It bent the line ramp (stripper) and it was toast. The fix took five minutes. They are not cheap tho; maybe a C note.

Thanks. Should be a easy fix (knock on wood). Its part #6 on the blow up. About $20ea. Really sux when it breaks and you are not paying attention and jam a line. Takes some effort to pull back through if you can while under sail instead of taking apart.
