Lewmar 40 2 speed Winch Spacer

Happy 4th of July!!!

Undertook the annual cleaning of our 1982 Morgan's Lewmar 40 2 speed winch and ended up dropping one of the plastic spacers overboard.

I haven't been able to find a replacement part. Called Lewmar and they don't have it. We are on the Chesapeake and have plenty of part stores, but the part we find associated with the winch assembly diagram (#15000491) is too small. It won't fit over the shaft, Took some tape and measured, the circumference is 7", the diameter (outside) is 2.25".

Any ideas where to buy obsolete boat parts?

Try Bacon's in Annapolis. They usually have older used Lewmar winches in stock and some older Lewmar winch parts. That's where I bought a lost spacer for my Lewmar 40 winch. Good luck.

A piece of PVC pipe will work. This was actually recommended to me by Lewmar for an old winch. Worked great.

If you have the dimensions, one could be fabricated from an appropriate plastic. McMaster Carr sells all kinds of plastic. Last year I manufactured a thrust washer for the steering system using a piece of Delrin from McMaster.

I believe Delrin is harder and slipperier than PVC.

I've had very good luck with Lewmar supplying me with the design plans for parts they no longer make. My plan is to use one of the 3D printing companies when the time comes.

PVC pipe spacer works fine per lewmar and that was 40 years ago. Mine are Lewmar 43 and its just a spacer cut the proper length and slot it vertically and it will slide right over the shaft.
