Since 1988, she has been sailed about ten times. The original owner died and the wife left her in storage for years...the guy who bought her, sailed her once or twice and left hatches open and no cover for maybe four years..? So below was moldy and smelly and really dirty...cushions rotted. Gutted her and several washings later she is soooo much better. A friend is helping me restore and learn the essentials for sailing. Our boats are similar...do you own the d or s? B.
Mine is a 1987 MacGregor 25 which has the swing keel.
You might want to look/search ru the archives on trailer maintainance for these. Some folks are not wild about the Mac trailers. I bought a second hand one, as the Mac one that came with it rotted out.
My favorite additions have been:
1) to permanently bolt the cooking station to the fiberglass, and add a Plastimo flexible water tank and electric pump underneath it;
2) add anchor holders to the the stern stantions, so I can release an anchor(s) from the tiller (I run the lines to the bow and back after I've rigged the boat dockside)
3) a depth sounder that my wife bought off Amazon, where the sensor is mounted on center under the V berth
4) a 100 watt solar panel that attaches to the stantions over the tiller, with a charge controller
5) all LED lights, including anchor and mast head
6) all lines run to the cockpit, as I single hand
7) a Harken roller reefing setup for the jib
8) a solent stay, with storm jib in the bag on deck that can be hoisted from the cockpit, after the genoa is furled.
9) An Origo non-pressurized alcohol stove that is on gimbals.
If we ever sell this boat, it will be because my wife wants standing headroom. Outside of that, it is perfect.
