Lets talk about outboards

Getting ready to buy an outboard for a Quicksilver 380 (aprox 12' 6") rated for 25hp.
Would like to plane with 4 adults. Will a modern (mid 90's) 2 stroke 9.9 do he trick? Or will a 15hp late 70's 2 stroke be a better fit?

Well, my 10'4" RIB with a 9.8 Tohatsu (4stk) will plane with 600# of people and gear, but not with 720#. I have a hydrofoil on the tohatsu as well.

I am going to pick up a 1977 Evinrude 15hp tomorrow morning. That should be plenty for what I am using it for.
