- Close seacocks when leaving boat for extended time - check batteries (wet cell) on regular basis - visually inspect running engine everytime out - make sure boat is in neutral when docking before stepping off (don't ask!) - Turn off shore power fuse box before disconnecting cord - check and double check which circuits are on and which battery is selected - don't let admiral get too overheated while sailing - always check bilge for water level - always have enough beverages on board (especially cold beer and wine) - always have fun and be safe

Some whisker poles float...for a while. On someone else's boat, help the skipper put it away after docking. If you use a porta-potty, clean it yourself. Develop a feel for how far your boat will carry, at a given speed, once the sails are dropped - you don't want to learn this on the same day you should already have known it.

a couple of mine...

Never hard reverse your boat with your wife on the bow for docking. (sorry Honey) Never leave your boat on a lunch hook while going for a casual walk on the beach. (Don't ask) Always leave your anchor line cleated, while retrieving the anchor. (and wear gloves) If you think you should reef, you should reef. Tell tails aren't just for looks. Heeling is an acquired taste. (newbie passengers don't dig it) Don't rinse your shampoo off with the potable water. (final rinse only) Always use some type of boom preventer when sailing downwind. Red wine on gelcoat, nuff said. Not everyone knows that they are responsible for their own wake. Loud music and generator noise is not cool on an anchorage.
