We'd like to trail the 260 to far away places. How do you deal with the oversize trailer. Any links to state requirements in NJ, NY, VT, MA. Or do oyu all just go and hope you don't get caught.

I go and haven't been caught

It may be that the degree to which the 260 is over legal limits is not sufficient to draw attention. Sort of like being permitted (in most, but not all jurisdictions) to exceed the posted speed limit by 5 mph or so. Technically illegal, but deemed not worth the hassle. I suppose, though, that if you were involved in an accident, they would decide that you were liable because you had a concurrent moving violation. Avoid small towns where ticketing outsiders is their means of balancing the municipal budget?

Never been pulled over

I agree with Mike. My state doesn't require gross weight lables. I keep my trailer in great shape. I don't think its obvious this is an oversize load. MN law, maximum size trailer: 45' long 8 1/2' wide 13 1/2' high Ours is just a few inches wider.

260 Trailering

Before stepping up to a larger boat, I trailered a 260 all over the southeast for three seasons. The trailer is not over size, it's the boat. I never had a problem with any law enforcement activity. Best advice is to drive with caution and not draw any attention to your rig. I don't know of any person who can precisely measure 3 additional inches left and right of normal width from 4 carlengths behind while traveling at highway speed. Smooth highways, empty ramps, and fair winds, Steve Kamp, H-38 Carolina, Bahamas bound

Trailered from LI to Ohio

When we bought our 1998 H260 on Long Island we trailered back all the way to Toledo, past loads of police and never got stopped once. I agree with Mike too - it's just not worth an officer's time.

Legallly trailering

Never towed a 260/ I did own and operate commercial trucks for 15 years running most states and Canada . The people who are most concerned about oversize loads (PUCO/DOT) are much more concerned about the trucks that are over size / weight. This is not to say it is impossible to get a ticket , just very unlikley . You might want to check with someone who knows insurance about possible problems in the event of an accident . Good Luck Mike

Fact is

Well down here anyway wether you are breaking the law or not if you have an accident try getting an insurance payout if what you were was illegal. The insurance company will not help you. But yes I agree that the chances of copping a ticket are very small but I would rather be at peace that if I total my 260 or kill some other person I am covered SO my 260 is trailered only during daylight with over length signs front and back and an amber flashing light AND an over length permit..that's the law.
