The USCG is field testing the use of LEDs on various navaids on the Chesapeake Bay, per the note in the latest Notice to Mariners: "FIELD TESTING OF LIGHT EMITTING DIODE (LED) LANTERNS The Coast Guard will be conducting a one-year field test using self contained Light Emitting Diode (LED) Lanterns. The LED lanterns will replace standard lighting equipment on the following aids to navigation:" If anyone has seen these LEDs in action, would like to know how they differ from the current lighted navaids and the ability to pick them out at night.

There is an LED stoplight on the highway

about half a mile inland from the flashing red bouy at the entrance to home port. The signal light is visible from 2 to 3 times farther out than the Navaid, hope the lights CG is testing increase the range.

Any locations?

Warren did they give any locations? I haven't seen any on the upper bay but then again I haven't paid much attention either. I don't need them once the hook is down and the hook is almost always down before the sun is. Mike

Wonder

Wonder if they'll do this on the channel marker that somebody ran into last weekend by Knapps Narrows? The hit it and took out the light...as well as de-masting their boat...
