I wish to replace halogen bulb in built in ceiling linr lights in our 1996 376 hunter. I am having difficulty finding correct source and led bulb to do this. These are bayonet style bulbs 2x thin wire contacts. Perhaps someone may have already don this and has insight into task. Thank you!

I suggest you "search" on this website for the term LED. There have been many posts with useful information on which LED products have been successfully installed in incandescent fixtures.

Here's my experience: A few years ago I bought a 1985 Hunter 25.5. I spent 6-months refitting, going through the boat from stem to stern. One of the upgrades was to convert all of the incandescent lighting over to LEDs.

On the 25.5 there are four incandescent cabin lights and two florescent fixtures. I opted to replace all of the incandescent cabin lights with LEDs. I found suitable replacements for both the bayonet blubs and the festoon bulbs at http://www.superbrightleds.com. I switched over to white LEDs in the main cabin and to red LEDs in the v-berth and quarter berth areas, all without replacing the fixtures. (I left the fluorescent lights in the galley and the head intact. And I also reused the Aqua Signal chart light.)

Since then I have become aware of red/white “switchable" LEDs. MarineBeam.com offers a line of replacement LED bulbs made specifically for the standard dome lights found in boats. These drop-in LED replacement "blubs" feature two modes from the same bulb. They can function as either a red bulb, for preserving night vision, or with a flick of the EXISTING switch, they morph into a bright, warm, white bulb, all without changing out fixtures or wiring. I have not used these “switchable" LEDs myself, but they get high marks from other SBO members. Here's a link to MarineBeam.com: http://store.marinebeam.com/red-white-dome-light.html

You didn't ask, but for the running/navigation lights I went to http://www.DoctorLED.com. They have festoon blubs compatible with a wide variety of "standard" running/navigation lights. On the Hunter 25.5 the running lights are Aqua Signal series 25 and the steaming light and anchor light are Perko. DoctorLED has festoon base LED bulbs that are compatible with these original fixtures. (FYI. I also replaced the lens on all of these lights. It might have been less expensive to purchase new LED fixtures all around ... but I was trying to keep the boat as "original" as possible.) Also, a key issue for me was that the DoctorLED "LED bulbs" are rated for use in marine navigation lights.
