Has anyone tried led navigtion lights and anchor light on their boat? If you have with success, could you recomend a supplier?

LED lights
It's not that difficult to make a LED light but the original light socket has to modify to accommodate new led assembly. I haven't see any commercial LED light for boat yet. But anyone with a little knowledge of electronic can surely make one with very little coat.

LED lights...
sound like a good idea. I read they use less than 10% the current of filament bulbs. I haven't tried them yet but you might check Digi-Key on the "Related link". Do a search on "LED lights". They have a good selection of LED replacement bulbs. You may be able to find a subsitute for your boat. Be sure you get the same or greater candela from the fixture (not just the bulb) so it still meets coast guard requirements. Now only if...
... the Coast Guard would certify use of LED bulbs (or cluster of LEDs) for use in Navigation lights. Navigation lights (including Anchor lights) need to be certified and if you replace the blub with a non-certified one, well, all of you are smart enought to think for yourselves...

Coast Guard approval...
doesn't mean you're in compliance. I can buy a USCG approved light and improperly install it and that would be my bad. Coast Guard approval lets the light manufacturer off the hook but not you. You must be in compliance whether or not your equipment has an approval stamp on it. There is nothing in the Coast Guard regulations that require you to use Coast Guard approved equipment.
