I would like to upgrade our anchor light to an LED bulb. Our 30' is a 1987. I have a feeling I'll be making 2 trips up the mast (one to see what I need, another to deliver), but being an optimist I thought I would ask for other owners' input. I'm looking for advise as to what companies people have been happy dealing with, type of bulb contacts others have etc.
Thanks,
SandyFeet

I used marinebeam.com

Pros: Service was top notch, delivery was on time and quality is excellent.
Cons: More expensive than other places.

I did lots of homework before I purchased and I fall into the quality vs cheap camp. Do your own research so you are satisfied with the differences between manufacturers of LED's. There are good reasons for both camps.

LED's are the way to go!!

I installed this on my Cat 30. A little less than $400. I ran a 12awg 3 wire up through the mast. The pics are pre finish. I marked the wiring on the masthead, the top is the light, the bottom is the wiring running through the mast.

It works great, is highly visible and I love that it illuminates the Windex. The only thing I should have done is move the Windex aft on the masthead. I thought I needed to keep the Windex directly over the light, it doesn't have to be. When I take the mast down again, I'll have to replace the rod the Windex sits on with a longer one. Because it is so far forward, it is difficult to see...oh well.

I left the original running lights in, they are on a separate switch and I turn them on when the engine is running, this way I have double coverage...high and low. Hopefully, that is not a violation...

Chris

....after rereading your post, you're not really looking for this...sorry!

Thank you! I agree, spending money wisely doesn't mean buying the cheapest. I also want to minimize the trips up the mast, therefore quality takes priority here because I want to do it right the first time.
