Looking to change to LED bulbs. Currently using 1156 "taillight" bulbs. Is sensibulb still the conversion of choice? I have tried a Lunasea but not as bright/warm (230 lumens). Seems all the reviews etc are 4-5 yrs old.

Mark, I've used LED Wholesalers and been happy.good prices and fast service.. I had 1156 bulbs in my "eyeball" reading lamps .. I used http://www.ledwholesalers.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=758. these in warm white directional great for a reading light. I found that the 90 rated lumens was really bright .. It is important to get bulbs rated for a wide voltage because of the normal variations in volts from deep cycling to charging at 14+ volts.. The straight 12V ones will burn out quickly if used while charging the batteries.

I've installed led ropelites in my interior. they make the insides look nice but have not had them on during the night as yet. Also adding a blue set in the cockpit for those cozy summer nights.
We have used sensibulbs on two boats now and very pleased with them, not the cheapest way to go, I did try others brands, they were too bright, blue and they did not last very so I thought the sensibulbs look better, are easier on the eyes and are cheaper in the long run.......

As a jump in bonus. It appears to me one unintended positive with LED's is they don't attract bugs like other light sources. So if you like to relax in the evening with the hatches or companionway open, you won't get the bugs (millers etc). I would want someone else to concur.
My buddy put one in his back porch light and normally we would have bugs all over the place when we step out for a smoke. Not a bug and he said he noticed it right away too. I know some Marriott's and other chains use led bulbs in the valet/entryway roof cover, you won't see many bugs drawn in.
Who knows why.
Mosquitos on the other hand aren't drawn by the light, they smell you out.

I'm with kloudie1 on LEDWHOLESALERS. Fortunately they are just up the road from me and I drop in occasionally to pick up what I want and check out what they have. I have converted fluorescent fixtures using led strips and converted bayonet to led's. With a little creative work You can keep your existing fixtures and convert them to led's. I have converted foredeck light and spreader lights as well. The savings in electrons is well worth it. Use warm white wherever you can for living areas for natural light. For deck lights, bright white is good as you can get more lumens per electron.
